The nervous system controls and regulates all parts and functions in the body. If the head and neck are not in proper alignment, it can disrupt vital brain signaling that’s sent to all parts of your body. This can cause countless health problems, pain, organ dysfunction and other conditions that you would not normally associate with a problem originating at the top of your neck.
The words “Upper Cervical” actually refer to the region of the neck where the the head and neck meet. This is a significant portion of the spinal column because it’s houses the brainstem (which controls and coordinates all things in our body). A slight misalignment in this area can lead to irritation of the tissues surrounding the lower brainstem and result in a multitude of consequences including ischemia (loss of normal blood flow) and a reduction of neurotransmission (nerve signals), affecting the overall function of the nervous system.
